The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Stephen Covey

Property Tribes: Book of the Month October 2013

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective PeopleProperty Tribes Book of the Month, October 2013One of the classics in the self-help, coaching and leadership genre, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People contains something for everyone. The message is there is always room for all of us to improve in the way that we manage ourselves and the way we interact with other people.

I read this book for the first time a few years ago, and was prompted to pick it up again recently when it cropped up on a course reading list. Having re-read it – and listened on audio for maximum immersion – some of the lessons have really struck home as a reminder that personal development and progress is a never-ending story. I can strongly recommend the audio version. Stephen Covey himself is the narrator; when a book’s author also narrates, both narration and message tend to be more powerful.

Although this blog is mainly about property books, other books from the fields of psychology, business and personal development can have a big and positive impact on what we do in property. This book definitely counts as one of them. Stephen Covey is really talking about leadership – of ourselves, and in the way we can (if we choose to) inspire others.

If you haven’t already read it, buy it now and find out how you can become more effective. If you have read it, read it again to find out what has changed, and what further changes you can make on your own path.
