Hello, I’m Jayne Owen. I have recently started working with David on the PropertyBookshop.com. As well as being a (more or less) full-time property investor, I love books, words and writing. In fact, I’m one of those people who left to their own devices, can read and read and read and actually not get around to taking any action. Fortunately I have a full-time property investor husband (also called David – this could get very confusing, so I’ll refer to him as The Other Half) who keeps me on track and occasionally drags my nose out of the books. I share many of David’s views (David Bartlett that is, not David Owen The Other Half) on property education. It can be very easy to spend so much on courses, coaches and learning that a good chunk of your funds can be swallowed up leaving little to invest in property itself.

That said I also hope to be able to offer a different perspective too, because The Other Half and I have in the past attended courses and worked with a coach. Was it money well spent? Would we have been financially better off to have put the money directly into property? Well, the courses, coaches and so on were right for us at the time. I wouldn’t necessarily advocate this method of learning as how you learn is a very personal matter. If it feels like the right thing for you to do, then do your due diligence well and go ahead if – and only if – you have the funds available to do so.

What is more important is that over the years since we undertook our more formal and structured route, so many more good quality books and low cost resources have become available on the subject of property investing and developing the appropriate mindset. These offer you a very cost-effective place to start.
